Summer is always an exciting time for kids when school is finally out and they can roam around free all day. However, most parents don’t find the same sentiment. They are charged with finding activities for their kids to do to either keep their sanity or simply to get through another day of work. A lot of the solutions like daycare and camp can end up being very costly. Luckily, Austin has a great plan to keep your kids safe, entertained and enriched.
Parents are encouraged to drop off kids ages 6-12 at any of the designated parks around the city for a day of free, supervised play. The Summer Playgrounds Program is staffed by temporary city workers and each playground maintains a 12-1 ratio of kids to adults. But this isn’t just a few hours for the kids to run around. They are taught character building, teamwork, active play, healthy living and STEM.
Camps runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday between now and Aug. 3, except on July 4. Most sites even offer free lunch!
