Each year we pause and reflect on what Memorial Day means. Unfortunately, we often let the busyness of day to day life distract us from doing this more often. But during this very special day of the year we realize just how much sacrifice goes into keeping our country safe and free.
Military families give up so much, including time with their loved ones. One parent is often shuffling kids in and out day to day often alone and missing their spouse while the other is fighting and missing their family just the same. It’s the reality of what our freedom costs. These families and veterans can use all of the support we can give. It’s honestly the least we can do. One way we can honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice is by donating to one of the many charities that support our veterans. Below is a short list of some who do amazing things for our military. Please feel free to comment your favorites below as well.
The Independence Fund is committed to empowering our nation’s severely wounded, injured, or ill Veterans to overcome physical, mental, and emotional wounds incurred in the line of duty. They provide the resources and tools that enable Veterans to regain their independence.
Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veterans families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital.
Operation Homefront provides programs that offer Critical Financial Assistance and transitional housing programs, permanent housing and caregiver support services and services throughout the year that help military families overcome the short-term bumps in the road so they don’t become long-term chronic problems.
A veteran employment service organization focused on personalized career coaching that improves clients’ quality of life and strengthens the U.S. economy.
