Those of you who have lived in the Austin area for a considerable amount of years may know about the history of East Austin and Chicon Street. A lot has changed recently with investors buying property in the area and rebuilding but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, there was a time when the area was considered a rough part of town frequented by drug sales and prostitution.
Mission: Possible! started in 1992 with Tim Pinson saw a need in the under-resourced areas of Austin. The organization has expanded to cover two corners are 12th & Chicon with a pregnancy resource center, community center and more. Tim and his team have a heart for loving East Austin and those that need support. Through programs like Camp Nikos, a ministry that connects the church with at-risk youth and their newest development the Tree of Lights Christmas Store, Mission: Possible! Is striving for real life change.
The store will be open this December for low-income families connected with the organization. Here, they will receive a voucher to purchase new Christmas toys for their children at a 80% discounted price. This allows parents the dignity of shopping and purchasing for their family. Because of this, the Tree of Lights Christmas Store is looking for donations of new, unwrapped toys with the price tag still attached. Items for children and teens are needed and they currently have a gift registry open at Walmart for ideas under the name Mission Possible.
Donations can be dropped off at 1190 Chicon Street Austin, TX 78702 but we will be accepting them tomorrow night at A Glorious Christmas featuring for KING & COUNTRY and Casting Crowns starting at 3:00PM at the H-E-B Center. We would love for you to come and enjoy the show and bring a toy with you! Tickets still available.
