Forecasters warn a new round of gust winds in Northern California could create the risk of new hot spots today as firefighters battle through deadly fires. The wildfires have destroyed about 3,500 homes and businesses since the beginning of the fire. Gov. Jerry Brown has issued a state of emergency, stating “this is one of the biggest, most serious” wildfires the state has ever faced. Surrounding areas have also been impacted as the fires elevated the state’s air quality to “very unhealthy” levels, putting millions of people in harm’s way.
Mosquitos in west Travis County tests positive for West Nile–Mosquitoes are present in Central Texas all year, but the population is largest and most active during the months of April–September. The mosquitoes that tested positive were in the 78746 zip code, near the area along Bee Cave Road.
Parts of McKinney Falls State Park were destroyed in the Halloween and Memorial Day floods over the past few years. They are looking for volunteers to help revive it. McKinney Falls is the only state park in Austin.
