Irma has weakened to a Category 1. 5 Million Without power in Florida this morning. As the storm moves north there’s Tropical Storm force winds. Even though the storm is weakening . . . .there will be lasting effects all week long. All of the airports are closed in Florida. Georgia’s governor declared a state of emergency for all 159 counties, while Atlanta claimed the dubious distinction of receiving its first tropical storm warning in city history.

Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) reached out to Austin Energy before the storm hit, anticipating dangerous winds would knock out power lines and leave hundreds of thousands of people in the dark. Austin Energy travels 1,000 miles to help power up north Florida after Hurricane Irma. Austin Energy deployed several crews to Jacksonville, Florida early yesterday morning.
