Flint, Michigan will replace at least 18,000 lead or galvanized-steel water lines by 2020, and the state will pick up the bill with state and federal money. Flint’s drinking water became contaminated with lead in April 2014. The corrosive water leached from pipes, joints and fixtures, causing a spike in toxic lead levels in the blood of Flint’s children and older residents.
