We are excited to officially bring in Summer with this week’s Difference Maker, Mindi Sherman. Mindi is described as a selfless giver when it comes to one of our most valuable assets, our time. She is known for her constant prayer and support. A lot of this comes from her very powerful story which she uses to minister to others.
In her teen years, Mindi experienced major trauma, which caused her significant emotional pain. This lead her to spend her teen and early adult years becoming entangled in unhealthy relationships that further put her in doubt of her self-worth, and pulling away from God. After many such relationships, and within the darkness of an unhealthy marriage, she finally found the strength to escape and to seek a better life. With love and determination to protect her three-year-old son and a cry out to God to get her through the pain, she started to become a new person.
In the next 20 years, Mindi learned—with God’s help—to see herself as a survivor, rather than as a victim. With that strength, she began to seek out others who have been victims so that she could lend a listening ear, empathetic heart and comfort. Mindi has provided compassion in her volunteer work at Hope Alliance in Round Rock. She has also recently published a book called, Surviving. Mindi manages a Facebook page “Break The Rearview Mirror” as an ongoing community for support.
Her story has lead her to deliver talks to Cedar Park Police Department Victim Services volunteers and Williamson County Victim Services volunteers. She also leads personal renewal groups for women. And if that’s not enough, Mindi works with special needs students in the Early Learning Environment within the Leander School System.
Within her many communities and networks, she regularly heeds God’s nudge to spiritual support and encouragement for troubled teens and adults. There is no doubt that Mindi’s heart makes her a difference maker in our community. Please take time to congratulate her on this award in the comments below.
