Hong Kong police arrested dozens of pro-democracy protesters this morning as teams with sledgehammers and chainsaws demolished camps and tore down tents and supply stations established by activists as part of a mass civil disobedience movement that has lasted over ten weeks. This has paralyzed parts of the south China city. The protests were sparked by China’s refusal to allow a free choice of candidates in leadership elections slated for 2017.
