AUSTIN — A new adoption promotion from the Austin Animal Center will help you cuddle up to a new furry friend this Valentine’s Day.
All pet adoptions for the month of February will be $40. This includes vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, and a tag and microchip.
Children are also being encouraged to make valentines to put outside their favorite pet’s kennel. On weekends in February the center will have cookies for guests and dog treats for pets in the shelter.
“We’d like to encourage all animal lovers to help us celebrate Love a Pet Month by visiting the shelter and providing love to the homeless pets in our care,” said Chief Animal Services Officer Abigail Smith. “We’d also like to have our kennels decorated with colorful valentines, so we invite youth of all ages to come visit us. Help us make this February one we won’t forget, and I can guarantee that all the kisses are free!”
Valentine’s Day weekend (Friday, Feb. 14 through Sunday, Feb. 16) the AAC will participate in Petsmart National Adoption weekend with a Mega-adoption event at the Brodie Petsmart located at 5207 Brodie Lane in Southwest Austin.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day and adoption fees for AAC pets will run as low as $14 for puppies and kittens.
All AAC pets will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and will go home with a collar, tag and microchip.
All pets available for adoption or lost pets can be viewed at www.austinanimalcenter.org.
The AAC is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 7201 Levander Loop. You can also adopt dogs at the Town Lake Animal Center at 1156 West Cesar Chavez from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
