AUSTIN (KXAN) – Schools in Bastrop, Smithville and Leander will be closed on Tuesday due to the impact of the Central Texas wildfires over Labor Day weekend.
Leander ISD has announced its four campuses in Steiner Ranch, plus Vandegrift High School and Four Points Middle School, will be closed on Tuesday. In addition, Vandegrift High School will continue to serve as a Red Cross shelter for fire evacuees. Please check the school district website for additional updates as they occur.
Superintendent Rock McNulty announced all schools in the Smithville Independent School District would be closed on Tuesday. Evacuees in the area are being sent to Smithville Recreation Center or First Baptist Smithville.
School also has been canceled in Bastrop Independent School District. According to the district’s announcement , this also includes after-school and extracurricular activiities. Bastrop Middle School also is serving as one of five shelters in the area, where at least 300 homes have been lost.
