When she was only three years old her father went to prison, leaving her and her mom to pick up the shattered pieces of their hearts. They didn’t know if he would ever come home. Of course, little Christina didn’t know why her daddy was gone. All she knew was that there was a big hole in her heart—her daddy had left her.
One afternoon they heard a knock on the front door and an Angel Tree volunteer stood in their doorway. In his hands he held a box wrapped in bright paper. “I believe this is for you!” he said, placing the gift in Christina’s hands. “This is from your dad, who loves you very much.”
She grinned from ear to ear as she saw the love note her dad wrote just for her on the angel-shaped gift tag. She tore through the wrapping. It was the prettiest jewelry box she’d ever seen! For six more Christmases, Christina received gifts, a Bible, and chocolate kisses from her dad through Angel Tree. Though she wrestled with the constant hurt of having a dad behind bars, she knew deep down her father truly cared about her.
“For me to go back and remember that my dad made sure that I had a present through Angel Tree—that meant a lot to me. It helped mend the broken pieces,” Christina says.
We have a goal to change 825 kids’ lives this year and we need your help to make it all happen. Please consider giving a gift of any size to warm their hearts this Christmas season.
