Sport climbing and karate could soon be coming to the Olympics. While most of the world focuses on the Rio Olympics, the International Olympic Committee will vote today on a recommendation to add a package of five sports — baseball/softball, surfing, karate, skateboarding and sport climbing — to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. This summer’s Rio Olympics, open Friday.

Friends and colleagues reflected on Travis County Sgt. Craig Hutchinson’s life yesterday at Shoreline Church in North Austin. His life was taken outside his home in Roundrock. Sgt. Belinda Mangum remembered Craig as a Hulk-like figure, bringing a Hulk toy that sat on the fallen deputy’s dashboard. “I was always amazed that this gentle giant had such a huge heart.”
Austin residents are being reminded to brace themselves for a potentially high utility bill this upcoming month. According to a city memo, water usage for July 2016 was up 8 percent compared to the same month last year. Even though the Austin-area had the wettest May on record, over the past two months the area has fallen back into “abnormally dry” conditions and customer bills will see a sharp increase.
Starting next month, you will need to pay late fees for late toll charges again. TXdot had suspended the late charges because there had been so many people billed incorrectly. But as of September 1, the late fees return.
