Congress will blow past today’s deadline to pass a bill to pay for running the federal government through 2016. Lawmakers had been negotiating a trillion-dollar spending bill, but those talks have stalled over multiple issues ranging from guns to abortion to endangered species. To prevent the government from shutting down, the Senate passed Thursday and the House will pass today a five-day spending bill that will fund the government through next Wednesday. That gives lawmakers more time to try to work out a global deal on government programs.

13-year-old girl jumped from school bus on I-45 in Galveston –The bus was heading southbound on Interstate 45 near Bayou Vista when the 13-year-old girl hit the emergency exit button and jumped out Monday. The bus was traveling at about 55 mph at the time. She didn’t make it.
