“Let us be silent, that we may hear the whisper of God.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the busyness of life: kids, school, doctor appointments, groomer, summer scheduling, play dates, dentist, birthdays, weddings to plan, picnics to attend, family reunions to cook for, etc…It’s really hard to find quiet time or even alone time to sit still and allow the sun to warm my face and hear the leaves rustle in the wind, or listen to the birds sing a sweet song. I’m a Mama of two little girls, ages six and seven, an aging parent and both my husband and I work full time, so getting time away to sit and be in nature is a luxury these days. But, on a recent trip I had an epiphany…finding quiet time to be in nature is not a luxury for me, it’s an absolute necessity. It is my soul’s love language!
I recently went on a women’s retreat to a little town. During my two day stay I took in the quiet and stillness of this beautiful hideaway. I went on a nature walk along the river, wrote in my journal, napped in the sun and listened to the wind whip through the beautiful green trees. In that wonderful space of peace and contentment, God began to whisper and woo me. He reminded me of what was truly important in my life and how I needed to shift thing’s around to be more intentional with my time, my family and with Him.
We’d love to hear from you. What are your favorite quiet places? Where do you go when you need to hear the whisper?
