Police are investigating a last night shooting that left three people dead, including the gunman, and at least nine others injured in Lafayette, La. A 58-year-old white man allegedly opened fire at the Grand Theatre after a showing of Trainwreck began. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who arrived at the scene soon after the shooting, described a ‘story of heroism’ about one teacher who jumped in front of a bullet to save another’s life. ‘They were just out to watch a movie for summer break,’ he said. ‘They never thought it would be interrupted by this awful tragedy.
Today is the deadline for the Food and Drug Administration to decide whether to approve a new cholesterol drug. The injectable drug, known by its brand name Praluent, lowers so-called bad cholesterol (LDL) more than common treatments. A crash on Interstate 35 has killed two people overnight. It happened on the northbound lanes of I-35 near Rundberg. Six people were in the pickup truck, two adults and four kids. Two women in the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene. The others in the pickup are in critical condition. The driver of semi-truck, a woman, has non-lifethreatening injuries. Traffic is being diverted onto Northbound Highway 183. The northbound lanes of I-35 is expected to be shut down through rush hour.
