SC gov calls for removal of Confederate flag from state capitol grounds—South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called yesterday for the removal of the Confederate flag from statehouse grounds. “The time has come,” Haley said. “That flag, while an integral part of the past, does not represent the future of our great state.”
Tom Brady appeals his four-game Deflategate suspension Tuesday in New York in front of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Goodell’s decision upholding, reducing or eliminating the punishment won’t likely cause major changes in perceptions of a four-time Super Bowl champion — perceptions enhanced during a stellar 15-year NFL career, yet sullied in one game in which he may have knowingly used deflated footballs. If the suspension stands, Brady could file a federal lawsuit against the league or Goodell.

Beginning in July, Lakeway will join the lead of other cities in enforcing a hands-free ordinance for motor vehicle drivers and bicyclists. Although the city is currently under a grace period for the ordinance, starting July 1, Lakeway law enforcement will fine first time offenders at most $100 for engaging in any use of cell phone and mobile devices. Such uses include engaging in a call; sending, reading or writing a text message; viewing pictures or written text and gaming and using apps. For repeat offenders, drivers may receive fines up to $500.
