U.S., allies to meet on strategy to combat ISIL–The United States and its allies are meeting Tuesday in Paris to discuss ways to counter Islamic State militants. The meeting comes as Iraq’s ground forces, backed by coalition air strikes, and are struggling to retake Ramadi, a key Sunni city that fell to the militants last month.
The guy in charge of the TSA has resigned after undercover agents revealed that they had been able to get firearms and fake explosives through airport security more than 95% of the time.
A river cruise ship carrying over 400 people has capsized in China. Only 18 people had been rescued as of early this morning. They are still looking for survivors.
Two Austin Police officers suffered minor injuries in a car fire overnight. The driver of the car suffered significant burns. AFD and APD investigators are now trying to figure out what started the fire. Many of the details of the incident are under investigation, but according to AFD, the officers were talking to the driver when the car ‘violently ignited.’ The officers helped get the driver out of the car.
Austin Energy now using summer rates– Austin Energy announced on Monday that summer rates will be used until the end of September. Austin Energy recommended setting thermostats to 78° of higher, frequently changing or cleaning air conditioner filters and washing clothes or dishes in the early morning or evening hours to reduce heat coming into homes and lowering electric bills.
