You see hand sanitizers everywhere and like most people, probably assume they are good for you, right?
Bad news, people: There is an anti-bacterial ingredient found in some soaps and anti-bacterial soaps (and cutting boards, clothing, school supplies, first aid products, even a toothbrush!) called triclosan and it is toxic.
What do I mean by toxic? It interferes with muscle function, is an endocrine disrupter, alters hormone regulation, was first registered as a pesticide, is in a class of chemicals linked to cancer.
What does it mean to alter hormone regulation? Triclosan chemically mimics the thyroid hormone, binds to the hormone receptor sites, blocking them, so that normal hormones cannot be utilized.
How does this make you fat? Your thyroid regulates your metabolism. It’s essentially your metabolic control center. You need your thyroid to function normally.
Do you have issues with your thyroid? Then you really need to pay attention to the ingredients you are putting in your system. Have heart disease? Cancer? Be on the lookout for triclosan.
Why are is tricolosan still on the market? Good question. It’s expensive to change formulas so unless the customers are complaining, it’s unlikely they will change.
You will not believe how many products contain triclosan! Check out this list of products.
All those little bottle attached to our kids’ backpacks with hand sanitizer? NOT GOOD.
Plain old soap and hot water is best for washing your hands but if you do use hand sanitizer, check the ingredients!
We need to go back to basics and simplify what we eat, drink AND put on our skin.
Are you as fed up as I am? It seems like every other product we start using ends up being toxic or bad for us!
