This time of year we see a lot of acts of generosity. I know I personally had the recent thought of needing to give this season. I realized that I hadn’t made an intentional act of kindness yet and was much overdue. This year I took a new approach towards giving that I wanted to share with you all.
It all started Sunday with a great sermon over giving. The scripture referenced was 2 Samuel 24: 17-25 where David goes to buy a threshing floor to make a sacrifice to God for his sins. Once finding out what it was needed for, Araunah, the man who owned the site, wanted to offer it for free. David’s reply really caught at my heart:
24 But the king said to Araunah, “No! I must pay you for everything. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.”
David wanted to pay full price to honor the Lord.
It’s so easy for us to get caught up with the financial part of giving. There are times when we just don’t give God our best, even though he has given us everything.
If you plan to give this season, I want to challenge you to pray before doing so. See what the Lord wants you to give and don’t hold back. I think you will see that the rewards will far outweigh the cost.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas season,
A SPIRIT staff member
