AUSTIN — The famous Zilker Holiday Tree in Zilker Park has been lit once again for the holiday season.
There are 39 streamers on the tree, each with 81 bulbs, equalling more than 3,000 lights. The double star on top of the tree has 150 frosted bulbs.
The 47th annual Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will began at 6 p.m. with live music beginning at 5:30.
KVUE’s very own Quita Culpepper emceed the event, which featured local entertainment, a holiday message and the lighting of the tree by the 2013 Zilker Holiday Tree Art contest winner.
Operation Blue Santa collected new toys for its annual toy drive. Music entertainment included the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble and the Barton Hills Choir.
‘I’m nine, and I’m just going to sing, and we’re going to go,’ said Evan Cobb, a member of the Barton Hills Choir.
‘They’re going to sing, probably, Jingle Bells,’ said Evan’s mom, Susan Cobb. ‘They do lots of hand motions, and they just sing really loud, and it’s very fun.’
Food and other vendors were at the event as well.
The Zilker Holiday Tree will be lit Dec. 1 through Dec. 31, 2013 daily from 6 p.m. until midnight.
